    Im about to bid on a set of highway pegs/case guards from a 78 special, mines an 80 standard...anyone know if they are compatible or not?

    I think you may find they aren't..... I'd wait until the combined intellectual might of the forum passes judgement before bidding...

      All the XS11 case guards are interchangeable on all the models, 2 and 3 point.

          Except for the fact that there is no such thing as a '78 Special, as long as it came from another XS11, it'll fit.

              Typically they bolt to the engine mounts, no extra bolts needed IIRC. Good news is if they made a 78 Special, they would fit it also, so your covered!!

                My 3-point guards needed slightly longer bolts than what were originally on there. I don't know what size they are, but the OEM bolts weren't long enough to go through the engine mounts AND the guards with enough thread left to grab onto. On mine, the lower bolt was replaced by a stud that is part of the guards, and I replaced the single long bolt that goes all the way across the front of the engine with a piece of SS all-thread and matching SS nylock nuts.
