Petcock problem and my solution

Thought u all might like to see this, I have a special, but wanted a std tank (going for the cafe look) so, as most would do, I hit up Andreas. But alas, he did not have a set, so, I took matters into my own hands:
First of all, in time sitting I had apparently lost the fuel pickup tubes, as well as the screens, so I may try some kind of filter sock, as I am too poor for new screens, at $40 each, but I made my own pickup tubes:


They are just a light press fit to the petcock body.
Then, made an adaptor plate to attach to the std tank, won't know until tonight if it'll clear everything, but I'm hopeful.


What do you fellas think?

Might be a bit to thick and the nipples are going to be hard to get the hoses. Also might need to round the inside corners some.

I think Nate menat the outside corners of your adaptor may need rounding to fit. The added depth may create a bit of a bind on the fuel line, but I think it will work.

It could probably be thinner and work fine. Think of how much thickness there is to the tank wall and backing nut plate where the screws go in. If your adaptor is any thicker, it is overkill. But I like the creativity that went into it. I would make sure to use in-line fuel filters and then I may not even worry about the in tank filters. I think more are floating around in the tanks than the owners know about.

I've done the same thing your doing. Except my plates were thinner. You can look to see my old posts and see what I done. But they will work. Just keep in mind if you use your stock air box you'll have to watch which side you put on. As you can have it to where each petcock is forward or to the back of the gas tank. I had to place mine forward to help clear the stock air box. I like your plates you made but you can cut them in half and still use them with out any sealing issue's. Good luck!

No, I mean the inside corners, as in the corners that will point into the tank.

well...im in a different spot...

my petcocks were zapped...so i put rebuild kits in them.....i can only guess that the PO had rebuilt them wrong, cuz i rebuilt them the way they were(order of parts in/out)...

now both leak like a beast..........good thing the floats/needles are working.

anybody have a GOOD diagram as to how an 80G petcocks are SUPPOSED to go back together??? i have a feeling the diaphram/spring assembly may be backwards....
