A few years ago with my 1st xs, when I changed the oil/filter I remember a member telling me I didn't need to buy the expensive yamaha or similar oil. I can't remember what he recommended but I used it and it worked great, I think castrol gtx?? What do you guys use?

    Adam, Adam, Adam,

You've been a member for 4 years, 155 posts, and you haven't seen the comments to others regarding OIL threads?!

Put your flame suit on! J/J!

Most auto oils in the proper viscosity range...20/50 WITHOUT the "Energy Saving/Friction Modifiers" words in the API/SAE seal will be okay. Also most will recommend NOT using FULL SYNTH for fear of aggravating a weak clutch into slipping! YMMV

Any non-synthetic 20W50 car oil will work, none of them should have the unwanted friction modifiers. I use either the Castrol GTX or the Wal-Mart house brand.
