  • Carb Question....

I have tried searching, and although I have learned much I still have not found an answer.

When I bought the bike, one of the items included was a second set of Carbs, shiny clean and presumably ready to rock.... I have changed over the Choke Rail
complete with the tiny balls, however....

the "new" carbs have 2 fuel inlet hoses, mine only have one line directly from the petcock. I believe the new carbs work with what is called the "octopus" on here, question(s) I have are.

I have read the second line is an Air Line, is this true?
If it is for fuel, can I feed both from the single petcock line with a splitter?

Awesome Motorcycle, if I can get it running anywhere near stock....

If you have an xs it should have 2 petcocks on the tank. The carbs should have 4 Ts. Two higher ones are vents and the 2 lower are the fuel.

The stock Mikuni carbs for an XS1100 all have four carbs with two fuel inlet Ts. Depending if you have a Special model or a Standard model, well, more specifically a Standard tank or a Special tank, the petcocks will work differently. For the Special tanks, the petcocks have two fuel outlet nipples side by side, the front one for PRIME and the rear one for ON or Reserve. Sor the Standard tank it has one fuel outlet for both PRIME and ON, and one vacuum nipple facing the front of the bike.

If you have the older style carbs, you will have four Ts total, two for the right pair of carbs and two for the left set of carbs. The UPPER T on both sides is a vent for the float bowls and should go to the air box if you have it or just open to the air/atmosphere. The LOWER T on both is for fuel inlet.

For the Standard tank, the fuel nipple on the petcock goes to the fuel nipple on the carb. For the Special tank it gets more complicated, however, if you do not have the OCTY valve in place, then just run the fuel line form the rear nipple on the petcocks to the fuel T on the carbs.

Hope that clears it up a little.

It clears it up a lot, thank you, I have the special, I have one fuel line off the back of the petcock, I thought the upper was a vent, thank you for confirming this, looks like I will be riding this again by the weekend now
