don't want to beat this topic to death but i'm current looking for an acct for my '80 xs1100g and after reading some of the info available here i find the number of possible replacement units overwhelming. very long lists of yamaha models from which to choose.... apparently the vmax unit is a straight bolt on. i can't find one so which of the other choices are also bolt on? hoping to not make this a major project. thanks

Yep, the list is long. Raptor? I got a nice one but haven't installed yet, being not sure if it's the best choice other than the V Max unit.

If you type in "Venture cam chain" on ebay search, you will find 2 tensioners for $45 that don't need any modification, they are usually sold in pairs as the Venture/Vmax motors use 2, you'll have an extra for a friend or for your 2nd XS11 when you get it.

If you really want the V Max unit, you can buy a new one for $90. I would do that if it was the only option to the stock unit.

Teh Venture XVZ 1200 or 1300 is a direct bolt on, as well as the V-Max. The Vision and the Raptor are supposed to need a little filing of the top hole to get them to mount up, not a big machining process, but more than just throw the bolts in and go.

Subjects are better beaten to death, IMO.

Use a Venture or V-Max acct. They are a straight bolt-on but you may need to shorten the retaining bolts slightly......I did

              done deal

well, i got a like new venture acct unit installed onto my bike today. easy job. now all seems right in the universe on to the next projects: installing the new "tc" fuse block, installing new wires onto the advance unit. my stock ones are in perfect shape but after riding this thing a bit i really like it and may end up keeping it for some time. might as well do some of the "preventitive" mods and get ahead of any potential problems. thanks to all for your info and help so far.

Get yourself a rear left side wheel bearing from me then... I still have a few left......but not many...... Prevention is better than cure, as far as that particular component goes.....

I have a Raptor 700 acct on my special and it went right on. The bolt pattern is a little tight, but it went on with little trouble and works great. Just make sure you follow the guide lines found on here and you should be fine.

Might be tough to explain since he no longer owns the bike....
