  • lh crank main seal

Hi Guys, first of all I'm back... its been a rough 12 -18 months of life... gettin in the way of life..... (hope you understand)

When i so suddenly and sadly disappeared (nothing illegal, just 3 kids one teen, and singleparenthood and a new admin at work)

the mongrel was leakin out the main seal on the left side, making a mess of my left foot when running, (this was Rusty's engine, that had sat under a tarp outside for 15 years)...
it only leaks when it's running..

I got the seal, and it does have a lip on it.. I'm looking at options to not have to split the cases.... After talking with a service tech at the local "motorsport" dealer that actually smile when someone said that i had questions about the xs11.. he was hapy to chat about "that good ol thing"..

He agreed that splitting the case is less than desirable unless absoultly necessary.. and suggested i remove the lip and yamabond it in...

I'm thinking and open to imput, but if i taper the
lip so it gradually increases, i can slip it in,
    and it should snap in...

either that or cut channels in it, so there are a few lips that would catch the notch...

Just looking for other ideas, ill take pictures and maybe it will be a good thing for the list of 'fixes".. what do you others think??????
BTW its Great to be BACK!

Jeff, welcome back. One of the seals, it must be the right end one, is discontinued. The replacement that Zanotti Motors sent me does not have a lip on it. You might try a local parts store to see if they can match a seal up for you without the lip. Once you get the old one out, pop the new one in and you should be fine.

PS: I split the cases. The good news is, you don't have to take apart the top end to split em.
If it doesn't have an engine, it's not a sport, it's only a game.
