The lowers are bike-specific as well (and neither the mounting bracket nor the lowers are labeled in any way), but can often be made to work on many different models by trimming them a bit. Of course, if you don't have lowers, you don't need to worry about that issue.

Not true. All the Windjammer lowers were bike specific. They were molded in 2 parts, and glued together in different configurations to fit different bikes. Then, some were trimmed to fit around various carb setups. There were several "types" of lowers, and they all swap between fairings except the Windjammer V lowers.

The only vetter lowers I have ever seen with the part that extends back covering the engine and carbs were always for the WJ V. Never seen any with that part for the other models.

Then you've never seen the factory setup that was available witu the XS11. Very few of the sets came without that rearward portion.

Guess mine was one of the few. Seems like I see several more with the rearwad portion that were exported to Canada, least in the Venturer model.

Possible, or they all get cut off.

Not sure what the model is, but Steppenwolf has an SG (original owner of it) that he had Yammaha put the fairing on in late 80 or early 81, about a year after he bought the bike. His has the lowers, and the plastic part to cover the carbs and such. If you find one of his pics of his bike you Vetter oficianados should be able to identify which it is. All I ever knew about fairings is I had a CB750 with one once and never did like it.

Guess not unusual but unlikely Nate. The faired GS's and KZ's sported the extension lowers first. The Venturer, being factory dressed did not, they were just the normal 51series lowers so the enricher had easy access. Like I said, I've noticed that the Canadian Venturer models had the extended back lowers. But, the Canadian Venturer models also ALL had the benifit of adjustable metering rods on those later carbs too. Just different marketing expectations geographically I presume.

My bike came original without the extension on the lowers. It is the Yamaha name brand Vetter style.
Very nice Ron! Love the colors!
