Glad you are getting it back together, I am interested to see how she looks and runs!
    thanks me too.

    here's as she sits now:

please don't mind my messy garage...

I have a set of ZRX 1200 carbs on there now, but I'm going to take them off tonight and through the stock ones on just so I can get her running. hopefully she moves under her own power tonight, but with my luck, doubtful.

Compared to the late bikes, they do. But even the '79 was detuned compared to the '78. It was all in the ignition timing/curves, with the '78 having a considerably more aggressive advance curve as well as having 5 degrees more initial advance. But it didn't please the emissions gods, so it was a one-year-only deal....

That is some great work on that engine. Looks like it just rolled off a custom shop paint line!! Excellent work!!

I couldn't get the bike started with the OEM mikuni's so I went ahead and made the necessary modifications to my ZRX carbs, and with a little starter fluid she fired right up! She's a lot louder than I remember, wow, not sure if I have an exhaust leak or what but she doesn't even sound muffled. anyway, I installed a set of 138 mains into the carbs from a jet kit I had for my mikuni's. ordered a set of 38 pilots today and I'm going to change out the needles for a set of tapered needles from the mikuni jet kit when my pilots come in. As soon as I get everything close to dialed in with the carbs I'm going to try and fit the OEM airbox.

Next up is a little paint and she'll be back on the road soon!

the brake lever came with the master cylinder kit I got from dimecitycycles.com and the clutch lever is just the OEM but with a new cable adjuster. when I went to my local shop, the only one they had on hand was purple, oh well.

That front end fork conversion? Did you document its installation anywhere? Asking since I have a similar front end (R1 02) and want to put them on if possible. Otherwise, I might throw them on my xs650.

I never posted anything about it, but it was a pretty straight forward swap. I'm not sure about the R1, but the FZ1 forks had the same diameter stem for the triple tree as the XS11 stem, however, the FZ1 stem was about 20mm longer. So what I did was take the bottom spacer that the journal bearing sits on off of the XS11 triple tree stem and added it on top of the FZ1 spacer. You can see the two spacers on top of each other in that bottom picture a posted a few posts ago. That was it, and it bolted right up. I believe that the forks were the same length as well but I went from a 19" wheel to a 17" wheel so it sits an inch lower up front. Was actually a win win for me considering the stepper steering angle facilitates quicker steering plus being able to mount much better tires and use the FZ1 brakes is huge as well. I have Michelin pilot power pure's on there now and it's more than a night and day difference in terms of how the bike feels, steers, and holds a line through a corner.

Great looking bike. Love the engine, chain conversion and colour.

I've got to start fishing for reasons to send Joe my motor for the same treatment!

What pictures were you looking for? I probably still have them somewhere. If you're just looking for pictures of the bike, I'm still... building it. It's in a couple of threads on the 1st page here, but the one I'm updating now is the AHRMA vintage superbike build.
