  • Aftermarket 4-2 exhaust

Here are some pics of a 4-2 system on a 79F. Assuming I can get the pics to attach...

-Anyone know the brand/make of this system?

-If yes, what is it and are there any carb set up recommendations based on this system? The bike has a stock replacement K&N airfilter as well.

Looks just like the older set of Mac tapered tips I have. Mine were a little loud I built some tips to install in mine to quiet it down. Header pipes were not chromed very well and walls thin so they tend to blue quick if you run lean and rust in the seams if you do not clean and polish often.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

Thanks ViperRon, the internet showed that is what I probably am looking at as well, so thanks for the confirmation.

Yes, they are louder than I would prefer, definitely a bark to them.

Any jetting recommendations, or maybe should I say, should I start with something other than stock jetting and airscrew settings based on your workng with an older set of these?

Just guessin' that's the 80 CZ had 'under wraps' I saw last weekend at his 'stealth' garage down the street,(along side the unknown dressed super low mile XJ beauty he reluctantly drug out to ride) That exhaust won't necessarily constitute a 'step-up' main jet change, but idle mix likely will have to be opened up a tad. Other than that, would pull that ignition cover and make sure that advance mechanism is rockin' freely back and forth. Since the early models had the mechanical advance there with the springs and all, that area can build up with that rusty lookin brown powder that you'd see on automotive mechanical advances. So the early models thru 80 were prone to this affecting free, easy rotation, specially after thirty plus years. If it idles for ya right now as it is, while that cover is off and running, do the two handed pull on those pic-up wires every inch eliminating any possible weak/break spots under sheaving.

          Thanks Brant!

Yeah, it's the CZ special I am talking about. Fired right up on the first crank more or less once we bugged out the fuses (which are different than his and my G/SG models) and got some gas in the carbs.

I gotta run, but it'll be a fun chore to get that up and running.
