  • 79SF Rear MC pictures and questions

Hello to all, I have not been on in a long time unfortunately Life, a new wife, and other issues have kept me from riding much the last two years. I am trying to get my XS resurected again, but am having issues getting the dang thing to cooperate. I bought a MC rebuild kit earlier this year and ended up frustrated at not getting the rear to work again. I have searched some posts, but have not found the answer I seek so I shall post these pics and act like an FNG again.
All pics taken with my smartphone, so hard to see the small stuff.

The following picture is looking into the side of the mc where the bolt/plug is.

The smaller of the two holes is open and clear. The larger one seems to have something at the back of it. Is this where the infamous spooge hole hides?

The next picture I am looking down the piston bore.

Is the spooge hole really small and below the larger hole? If so, what in the world can I use to clean it?

Is this the correct positioning for all the parts of the piston? The thicker of the two rubbers is on the fat end of the piston. I am posting these as I couldn't find any pics specifically of the Specials' piston.

After I initially rebuilt the caliper and MC, I started to get some fluid draw on my mityvac, but let the MC run dry. After that no amount of vacuum would draw any fluid and I had it to 20 psi! I have taken this apart so many times now, I have it down to a science (same with the carbs). After many attempts, Something seemed to pop today and I drew a full vaccuum bottle of fluid through the system!!! FINALLY!!
Alas, no movement of the caliper piston so no brake. I just got new intake manifolds to hopefully get rid of my low end stumble(they were leaking at the block) and dialed my carbs in, but no test drive today. I hope to at least get to ride it once this year during some nice weather, with some help of course.
So, is the spooge hole really tiny and what do you use to clean it? on my front, I just used a copper wire, but it isn't stiff enough. I am also going to pull the caliper and pull the piston and clea it well. I gotta get some SS lline this winter.........

The spooge hole is the tiny one below the big hole.

The brass nipple need to be flipped around so the spring is over the nipple.

Best thing I've found for the spooge hole is a wire from a wire brush. A straight one, not one that has been all mooshed over on the side. A bristle from a tooth brush might also work, it being about the right size
A safety pin will get you started. When you look down from the reservoir chamber, (front MC), there is a start of a drilled hole, and down in the bottom of it is the spooge hole. Poke around with the safety pin to find the hole, and then use the wire to clean it out.
Blow everything out with air, rinse everything in alcohol, lube with brake fluid, and reassemble.
The rear is a little tougher. However, if you remember that air goes up in a fluid, and you give the innards a close examination, you can see how any trapped air would be allowed back to the reservoir, and find the spooge hole that way.
It's been a while since I cleaned one, and I don't recall exactly where it is, just that by looking at it, it was apparent. CZ

Thanks for the input! I finally got it to bleed out after flipping the cap and re-annealing my crush washers on the banjos. Still needs some adjustments, but I got to take it for a ride. I also got to lay it down to avoid a truck coming straight at me! Another thread, but the bike and I are OK! What a ride after it sitting for two years!
