  • New to xs11s, rear brake question

I just bought an 80 xs1100 g a couple days ago, as I was riding it home I was getting a slow pulse when pressing the rear brakes, kinda like the rotor is warped. As I was just looking at the rear brakes I noticed a good amount of play in the bracket that is allowing the caliper to move front to back like its rocking on the axle towards the front of the bike. Just wondering if this is normal or if I got something wrong here.

    rear brake

there is a large, black triangular "tension bar" between the swingarm and the caliper holder that is held in place at the front by a rubber bushed pin. it correctly positions the caliper assembly. sounds like the bar is not on that pin. take a look, should be pretty obvious if it's not right.

It looks like your spot on. There is a little rubber bushing on the frame but the bracket sits on one side of it and not in it. There is also a bolt on the caliper that looks like it might be missing washers.

Here is what the bracket looks like with the possible problem areas.

Here is a close up of the front of the bracket.

And a close up of the bolt on the caliper.

welcome to xs! if u need to see what parts should be there, u can go to BikeBandit.com and look a the parts fische. if the caliper bracket is out of the bushing, u will need to pull the axle to reinstall it correctly. waiting to hear what u find!

Thanks you for fixing the photos. I am going to pull of the axle in the morning. I believe that the bushing is on there, just not where it should be.

Ok, so I had to do some creative thinking to get my bike compressed, ended up using a ratcheting tie down to compress spring to get exhaust out of the way. Once that was done I pulled the cobble pin and grabbed my wrench and when the wrench hit the axle nut, the nut started spinning. It was not even on finger tight. So anyways I pulled the axle and messed with the bushing and I hope its on right. The bracket does not move now at least. Here are pics.

            My awesome compression rig.

Here is the bushing, please tell me that it looks right. Dont wanna pull that off again today.

I gotta run down to the hardware store now to get a new cobble pin and some other washers that were missing from the axle and caliper area. Let me know if I screwed that bushing up.

I'm sorry, I have to correct myself, I kept referring to the cotter pin as the cobble pin. I meant to write cotter pin.

The bushing looks fine, as long as the bracket feels solid, you're ok.

I've always removed the rear shockers and lifted the swinging arm. It's fast and safer than compression tools (even the OEM one).
