Adjusting floats?

I have a quesion about how 2 adjust my floats. Not sure where they need 2 be. I read somewhere that everything should be set off the number 3 carb. Is that true?

If your carbs have brass floats, with the carbs upside down on the bench and the bowl gasket removed, set them to 1" from the gasket surface to the highest part of the float bulb while letting the float set naturally and not pressing down on it. Make sure you check and adjust both sides of the float. When you SYNC the carbs, they are all set to the #3 carb.
