  • Special petcocks

Anyone know other petcocks that will fit an XS11 special petcock and where I can get whatever is supposed to be mounted on the underside on the left of the tank? There is a rectangular type of hole there, I guess for a fuel level sending unit?

I got this spare tank off ebay that I want to use with carbs while I convert my other tank over to a fuel injection tank...but I am missing parts, like the petcocks and that other piece and the lid - which I have a new lid and mounting hardware on the way from Bikebandit.

    fuel cocks

i am running a pair of older suzuki gs850 fuel cocks on my xj. they work pretty well. they have the vacuum valve built in. i ran a line to an intake boot on each side and connected to the fuel. prime to start then business as usual. my sending unit is kapotz as well so it would be interesting to hear where to get a new one. i currently have the circuit closed under the seat so it reads i have a full tank all the time.

      Snow ,

I have both a special, and standard tank, and the only holes in the bottom of the tank are for the petcocks. There is a large opening on the right, inside of the tank, in the frame tunnel, it has a few screw holes, and it is for the sender. Is that the opening you are asking about? I don't know about other petcocks, but I would imagine that the petcocks from the 750-850 line of Yamaha triples would be the same. I used to own a 79 XS750 SF and I recall the petcocks were the sameas my 80 XS11 SG. I do have a set from an XJ11, and some from a 78 XS Standard for sale...cheap.

John - I think I might have sent you a message through the classified section already, will the XJ11 petcocks fit the Special tank? I know that the Standard petcocks won't, as they are too large - that's the reason I can't just use the ones off my standard tank. Email me back how much you want for those petcocks and if they are in usuable condition, and yes I like paypal also

Are the fuel sending units from the standard and special the same; also, are the special and XJ11 fuel sending units the same?

        kf4anm, I also happen to have a GS750T sitting nearby...but I have to restore it..must resist tempation to steal..parts...

According to Yamaha's Partsweb, the 1981 Special and the 1982 XJ11 petcocks are the same

And yes, I believe the sender hole is the large hole I am talking about on the underside of the tank. I am hoping the sender is shaped the same from standard to special, but I am doubting it. If you have a spare sending unit lying around for a special, even if it's junk, I might just take it off your hands if you don't want it collecting dust

              Special Taps

              Gidday!
I've just finished fitting an E model tank to my 79 Model Special and I discovered that the taps were different at the last moment. The sender unit backing plate is interchangable between the two, though the wiring now runs out the other side at the rear of the tank. I sourced some fuel taps from an XJ900 and they fitted a treat. Also made the fuel line plumbing a bit simpler with only one outlet per tap as opposed to two.
              Hope this helps.
              Regards,

920 Virago petcocks are the same as the ones on my 81 Special. I don't know if they interchange with other years though.
