    Rescue Mission - need your thoughts

    Well, my wife is definitely going to kick me out tomorrow.

    Bought two motorcycles and a bunch of "new" parts for $200 sight unseen. One is a 1980 XS1100 Special and the other a 1986 Yamaha SRX thumper. Good news is that both bikes have titles in the owner's name. Bad news is that both bikes have been under canvas for three years under an eve. No idea of what to expect.

    I suspect it will be a major challenge to get them from where they are on to my trailer for the ride home. Any thoughts on what I should be prepared for? I'm thinking tires flat, brakes frozen, unable to get her out of gear. Any thoughts on these or other problems?

    As always, thanks for your help. Will post pictures when/if I get them home.

      Take tools to be ready to disconnect brakes, etc.

      Dont leave loose parts on trailer! They escape!

          under a tarp for 3 years, Multiply X2 and that how long it has actually been there.

          but for $200 with a title you can't go wrong, someone people would pay double that for a titled frame.

          +1 for buying the wife something nice!

            The above step is a must! I learned that already and I've only been married for 2 years. If you can, perform this step a day ahead but never more than 2 days.

              Bring a big strong friend, not to move the bike, to block her path when she picks up the butcher knife!!

              Seriously, bring tools to remove the brakes and possibly disconnect the middle drive from the drive shaft, 12 MM bolts. And that same big friend can serve an additional purpose of helping you lift the bikes onto the trailer. Drive a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get the trailer as close as you can to the storage location!!

                About 4 years ago I answered an ad of a guy selling/trading two XS1100's. I took my wife along (for a voice of reason) I was traiding my XJ750 for the two bikes. One of the bikes was 78E the other was 80LG both were mostly complete biles but no tilte just a bill of sales from the origonal owner. I planed on going through with the traid. My wife was completely against it (she was yelling a little...ok a lot!!!) I got the guy to give me $200 plus both bikes and all parts he had for them for the XJ750. She didn't talk to me at all the rest of the night and part of the next day....And yes we are still married.

                I fixed the 78E got it titled quickly. the 80LG took much longer for the state to do a background on the bike. Finaly got the title put it together and working well...and gave it to my daughter.

                Deffenitly get something for your wife!!!

                  A couple of bins to put all the loose parts in An air compressor /pig to inflate the tires.....which may hold air.

                        Anyway, got there and these were two fugly machines. Got half my money back (fair) and came home with an empty trailer. If I were a serious parts dealer it would have been OK but I was hoping for something that I might be able to bring back to life.

                        Appreciate all your suggestions. I put the tools back in the barn, drank the wine and ate the flowers.

                          LMAO! Nice man... only suggestion is to come back early early morning and take another 25% of your money back by showing the mailbox who's boss... but if your ok with it then repeat steps above re the wine and flowers.
