  • Well....here I go.......

It's been over a year now that I got a bare frame with a title to do a total swap over. The barn find 1100 I have had for the past two years didn't have a title and its been completed for a long while now. So.....the transfer has begun. Don't know how to post pics but with a little time it will look as good as new. Will be powder coating the new frame and everything will be cleaned and polished. May the wrenching gods be praised.

I had torn mine down to the frame with the engine in it duirng my clean up and rejuvenation of the barn find. Honestly, I think one person can take one down to that in maybe two days max.

Now, getting everything put back on properly and torqued appropriately as well as cleaned and lubed, not as quick of a task.

        the big swap

I agree DG.....I have it about 1/2 way down now. Will need an assit on get-ten the motor out and back in the other frame. By now I could be a certified Yamaha tech.

Easiest way I know of on the engine move, is movers straps. When I was laid up from my accident a couple years back, a couple fellow XSives came over and started the dismantle of the wrecked bike for me. They go the engine out using movers straps, and put it on a furniture dolly for me. That way I could move it around and even work on it while still in the wheel chair. Took them maybe ten minutes to get the engine out and on the dolly.

            the swap

Thanks DG.......that sounds like the way to go! Have pulled this motor before to do the dremel fix (2nd gear). We used big screwdrivers put inside the mount holes. Strap sounds better!

There should be a link provided by picasa titled "IMG link" or something to that effect. That is the link that you need to post here.

You can also use the "preview post" button next to the submit button to see if it worked or not.

Another way of removing/replacing the engine on the frame is by laying them on the right side. I used this method in both removing and reinstalling the engine from/to the frame.
If you're down to the frame and engine, remove all the motor mounts and bolts except the two on the bottom. Also remove the oil filter cup.
Lay some blankets on the right side of the assembly and tip it over on to them. It should now be laying horizontal on its side. Remove the two bottom (long) bolts and lift the frame off the engine. You can now right the engine over some 2x4 blocks in order to protect the oil pan and other bottom components. I used a 3' piece of 5/8" or 3/4" pipe throught he front motor mount bushings to give me a larger handle to maneuver the motor with.
