well, blckryno was kind enough to come over and take a look at my bike. we started out using a colortune to check the fuel mix on each cylinder. on all the cylinders, the idle mix screws changed nothing, the mix was usually pretty close to the blue color it is supposed to be. but even if we closed off the idle mix screws, nothing would change. the other problem we ran in to was fuel delivery, especially to the #1 carb. it would spark regularly, but then would only fire every second and a half or so. the number 4 carb would switch from getting the right amount of fuel, to too little, to too much all with no adjustments. right now we are at the point where the rpms will rise on their own and we have to kill the engine (i checked again yestersday for vacuum leaks) anyone have any ideas to help us out?

Did you pull the idle needles and verify the tips arnt broke off and stuck in the carb bodies? Sounds like you need to vacuum sync also...'79 XS11 F
