  • Anybody know how to make petcock vacuumless?

Hey everyone. I am in need of a new right petcock, I'm done trying to rebuild this thing. Is there a way I can rig it to be operational without needing the diaphragm? I remember seeing a way to do it, but I can find the thread. So for the time being before I find a new petcock I was just wanting to rig this so I can ride.

So, you want basically ON and OFF?
Okay, ON is prime and will flow with or with out vac, but no reserve.
In order to get an OFF then you need to be able to rotate the handle to the up vertical position. There's a little metal tab on the cover plate that you can grind/file off to get the petcock to rotate a full 360deg.

I think you could just take the diaphram out of it and it'll work for prime, on, and reserve, but I'm not sure about that.

Well I have already done that, after reading my fist post i should have explained what I meant better. Let me describe the issue and see if anyone knows what is going on with this thing. When I have the fuel line from the 1&2 carbs going to the left petcock, and 3&4 going to the right, the 3&4 cylinders fire hot and lack power. If i switch sides for each carb T to the other petcocks, it seems to run correct. More power and quicker reaction upon twisting the throttle ( like the way the bike should be). Anyone know whats going on with this thing? Also I was wondering about the idea of just using one petcock to supply the four carbs. How should I correctly route the fuel lines. Also with the problem I described, which petcock do you think I should use to supply the fuel. What should I do with the vacuum lines that run from the cylinder to the petcocks? Sorry I am losing my mind over this, I just want to ride. It also doesnt help that my car is going under surgery and I wont have a vehicle unless I get this thing going correctly.

If it works one way but not the other then my bet is is on a kinked fuel line when you cross the lines.

            Brian,

For your consideration, the vacuum petcock is a safety device. When the engine stops running, the fuel flow stops immediately. In my opinion, it was a good idea. I have another old Yam that I've owned for 29 years and the petcock has never given me any trouble.
