  • XJ speedometer cable size?

Can someone tell me what size the female threads are on the speedometer cable? Doing all kinds of funky stuff to the bike including putting on a universal speedo/tach and need to know what size to by. Thanks as always for he help. -Joe

I can't tell you the thread size/pitch, but I bought an extension on eBay, and it was labelled as a 12mm size speedo cable for metric bikes and SOME HD's!

You realise that you'll need to do some fairly extensive rewiring if you remove the stock gauges, right? Your headlight, taillight, and brake light all run through the gauge assembly and will quit working without the rewire. Plus the issues with speedo accuracy as the XS/XJ uses an oddball speedo ratio and the OEM tach is driven off the alternator. Aftermarket tachs get their signal from the ignition system, more rewiring and unknown accuracy on the XJ.
