  • Ceramic coating

I tried to post this in 'Finish' but it wouldn't let me. Anyone had new header pipes ceramic coated on the inside to prevent bluing?

I coated the inside of a set of MAC 4-1 pipes several years ago when they were new. I did not have it done at a shop (like Jet Hot) but did it myself. The pipes have been off several times and the coating is still intact.

Long story short, it probably will not stop blueing of the chrome, unless you have a really thick chrome plating or a double wall pipe.

Thanks mate. There's a company just up the road from me who do it. I have seen a post in another forum that says it works. I don't know, I'll probably give them a try and see what happens.

        Header Coating

This post originally asked had anyone had their headers coated on the inside. I am wondering if anyone has coated them on both sides by Jet-Hot or other coating services. I have had car (race) headers done by Jet-Hot and their coating is very satisfactory. One set that I had done was a new set. Another set was rusted, but they coated them both with much success - they have lasted for several years now and no bluing.

So, has anyone done this to an XS11 exhaust with any luck?

          Mike,
Did you use one of these? One is twice the price of the other. Why?

I used Chrome Guard before. There were some warnings about particals getting into the engine... It turned out good form me however.

You can't do the inside if mufflers are attached....

That same set of headers I spoke of above has been coated on the outside with Cermachrome by Techline coatings and their finishes are good for the inside also. I did it myself in 2009 and I highly recommend the finish however you cannot just go buy it. You must have a business purchase the finish for you as this is one of the finishes Techline only sells to refinishers.

Like all thses finishes, preparation is the key. Need to balst the pipes with Aluminum Oxide, clean the surfaces, coat them, bake them and then polish them. It is a bit of a chore to do but the end product is a very good coating that just does not fail.
