  • New left side switch/control?

Is there anyone that makes a NOS left side switch, or can I swap the one on from MikesXS? I know I'll be missing hazards, which doesn't bother me, but are the harness connectors going to be appreciably different?

I'm afraid buying a used part I'm going to end up with a broken solder-joint piece of crap worse than what I have.

I recently installed a left side switch from Mike's XS on my 1979 Special. The wire colors match but I had to cut and attach the new switch wires to the plug from the original switch.

    Hope this helps.

That does help, I have an existing switch but the insides are fubar. Nothing is wrong with the harness end, though, so I have no problems grafting. Sounds good, I'd rather spend $60 on a new part than $40 on a used one. Did you have any problems grafting the plugs? I notice the 650 switch has a few loose wires with bullet connectors.

Me too. I need one as well, left turn signal requires extreme pressure to get it to trip then works as designed, Rt works with ease.

Don't cut the wires! The wires with the pins still attached can be removed from the plug and then just reinserted in the old plug in the correct position.

+1 on what nate said. DON"T CUT THE WIRES!
Use a very small screwdriver and relase the tab on the connector in the harness plug and pull it out. then insert the new connectors into the old harness plug.
            Plug and play then!

I just ordered an NOS left side switch for my SF from Walt Healy Motorsports in Calgary. They stock a lot of old Yamaha parts. They only charged me a little over $10 for shipping to the US. Quick service and nice people.

No disrespect to those much more knowledgeable than I, but the switch I received from Mike's XS had a plug and three or more male end butt connectors. In looking at it and the bike wiring harness, it just made sense to me to splice the old switch plug into the new switch using butt connectors and not touch the bike wiring harness. It makes a neat assembly, the wires are all the same length and is repeatable if I must replace the switch in the future. FWIW

Its is OK Larry, it is not disrespectful when they get it wrong, happens to all of us sometimes. I will say, depending on how you like to do things and lengths of wires, you can find the ends like in the bike harness new at an autoparts place and crimp on your own new instead of splicing wires.
