so what you're saying is that it wasnt welded just "put together"?

Very hard to find anything new for these bikes as the only manufacturer still making an aftermarket exh. is MAC and they are cheap even though they arent cheap...if ya know what i mean. The OEM exhaust which I had up until 2007 was totally shot...... I then went with a MAC and later a Jardine...and now the Kerker. I searched a good 3+ yrs looking for a Kerker.
Sorry Ben. MAC doesn't make an exhaust for the XS/XJ1100 any longer. Once the current stock is depleted that will be it for a new MAC. You may have noticed a lot of them on eBay right now.

Thanks for that Marty..that is news to me...I have seen a few recently on fleabay...All the more reason to keep the Kerker and repack it...So I still have 1 complete used MAC 4 into 1...It might be going up in value once all the newest ones are gone...I also have a crappy Jardine 4to1 that had black headers and an oval ss muffler....so these might sell eventually.

I think when I pulled apart my kerker, the solid piece was loose inside, but the end cap had the mesh tube attached.

I wrapped mine in regular fiberglass insulation. When I reassembled, the solid piece wedged solid in the muffler and didn't come back out when I adjusted the amount of packing a few times.

Mine is all one piece, the solid tube and the mesh. I have the older design Kerker, the end cap isn't fancy like the one shown above, and it has no large emblem on it, it's just stamped Kerker where the mounting bracket is.

              Hi
I had the same thing happen to both my kerkers I have
I tried everything from superglue to gorilla glue to liquid nails
Finally I tried the liquid metal or liquid weld and I haven't had a problem since
just make sure the angle on the tube (baffle) is correct going back down into the muffler
              Goodluck

                Hi Jason
Glad to see Ben's bike in good hands. The welds have broken on that muffler. I noticed that one time Ben was at my house. I wanted him to bring it back sometime so we could fix it . That never happened. It should be a easy fix for someone with a welder, then a repack with some fiberglass.

How do you like that air horn on the bike?
Slow down and enjoy life. If you are in that much of a hurry, you should have left eariler.

I tacked it back together with JB Weld and repacked with stainless steel mesh. Sounds much better. If the JB Weld gives up, I'll have it welded.

The air horn is LOUD. Ben tied it to the frame for me b/c I bought the bike with the Vetter which required moving the horn bracket. I got home just fine but I'll be devising a new bracket sooner than later.

Jason with that horn it needs to stay vertical like it is now...actually its on a slight angle but upright enough...Inside the horn is a little motor with an impeller that draws air into the horn...and the horn must be in the vertical position to operate the right way...
hope the exhaust holds up...just be sure the footpeg bracket bolts are tight...

Everything is tight. I swapped out the broken foot peg bracket for the spare you gave me and made a one piece aluminium exhaust hanger to replace the two piece set up. Course I didn't know the center bolt on the bracket went alllll the way through the frame/engine. Took a few minutes to figure out how to lift the motor up just slightly to get it back together.
