Hey all, If any of you remember me from a couple months ago, I had my middle drive "blow up" on me while riding. I thought maybe it was good since it started rolling again. I just filled the middle drive with 90 w gear oil and it is leaking out of the drain hole in the rubber boot just about as fast as I can put it in. I understand the middle drive is prob shot, and i'm thinkin the bearing is out and thats why its leaking out the boot. Can anybody confirm or denie this? any ideas? thanks.

There is an oil seal that you may have damaged.Skids (Sid Hansen)
Down to one 1978 E. Stock air box with K&N filter, 81H pipes and carbs, 8500 feet elevation. -
Confirmed...........Ideas?.........First, do not ride that thing. So your recently purchased replacement is leaking?? That would suck majorly!! There is a seal on that end, but it is not common for it to go out or leak.
hate to say it, but it might be cheaper to find another drive than fix that one.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

DGXSER, I never got around to replacing the middle drive. It's just been sitting for the last couple months. I'm thinking I will just replace it after my wedding this fall. I'm too busy right now.1981 XS1100 Special

Hey Laurier how you been. By the way that favorite beer has saved you megabucks dude. The price of the pizza you ate was worth more than the beer you bought...lol. Never mind the first gear fix we did and the bags and fairing you got. Yes I do stuff for beer or cheap and I do share my parts bin as you well know... Haven't got the bags on yet but i also haven't been able to work on it as I have been busy with other peoples cars and such and now I am sick and have been off work for a few weeks now because of it.
