Very Very impressive. I have never gotten over 42 that I have tracked. You must have found the only place you can go downhill both directions!!

I truly think the biggest factor is that my daily commute is all done on surface streets which are posted at 45mph or lower. I seldom ever do expressway speeds.....legally.

Beyond that I run UNI pods with v-stacks, 145 mains, 45 pilots and a custom 4 into 2 exhaust.

Never able to top 44. BTW, did it by avoiding 5th gear. 4500-5500 rpm is is my motor's sweet spot.Find your motor's sweet spot and you'll find top MPG's

i like those pods and v-stacks...where did you get them or how did you make them?

                Hey Mike,

Hope you don't mind that I posted the photo here so all could see?

The filters are standard Unifilter cylinder style foam and chrome capped filters, you can see them in the tech tips, but they can dissolve!

As for the filter mounts....the picture isn't HD...possibly a phone camera, so I can't tell if they are bendable or what??

And as for mileage, yep running lower speeds...less wind resistance, so better mileage. I found that running the twisties during rallies, running in lower gears but even 5-7 rpms cycles and such, lots of wrist, but still got better mileage than running 70 mph in 5th against the wind! Go figure!

The stacks are 45 degree pvc elbows with a coat of aluminum paint and stainless plumbing union clamps. about $20.00 at the local hardware
I'll try to get a better pic posted.

wow...looks ggod...i have those crappy pod filters, and when i originally checked i didnt think they were restricting, but the other day i checked again, and yep...so i removed the pod from the base, lined it up on the carb, cut out small sections of the pod base over each hole, each pod, and rtv'd the pods back onto the base...i havent been able to ride yet as im working on a few other things, but in theory it should work...screw all that noise though, im going to lowes tomorrow and buying the materials to make these V-stacks! i seriously like this idea...im mister DIY, i dont like spending money on something, i actually enjoy going to the hardware store and figuring out a way to correct a problem on my own, but i would have never figured this out...congrats bro...

                      Better pics

Here's some better pics of the v-stacks made from 2" pvc 45 degree plumbing elbows and 2" plumbing unions:

                        Hey Mike,

Thanks for the better photos. Now it begs the question....but I'll surmise the rationale, and you can confirm or clarify. I also have pods, mini V-stacks mounts, and know there's room to go straight back towards the battery.

SO...I'm thinking you put the 45's on there for either to help with drain off of RAIN if you get caught in it, or also for more visibility of the filters vs. being partially hidden behind the frame rail and side cover!?

I did the 45's to allow for a longer 'tunnel'. The caps of the filters are within a half inch of the battery, heck those unions are two inches long by themselves.
Also, at least in my mind, the angle just might add turbulence to the inflowing air to get better mixing with the fuel, along the same lines as those tornado devices for most cars, heck if they weren't so godawful expensive I'd buy four of them and put them in there too!
Oh, and as a side note, the visibility factor I accomplished by moving the side covers aft so that they are just about flush with the frame rail. You can see it if you look closely (and after I pointed it out). I hope this offers some clarification, or at least a glimpse into my depraved mind
