  • New to me lower triple tree

Alright I took my lower triple tree off my 79F to see if it was bent and it its just slightly. I purchased one from someone a month or so ago and I'm going to put it on but I unnoticed it was different. I'm pretty sure it will work but I just want to know if anyone can tell me which bike it possibly came from? Maybe a special or even an 80 or 81.

Well here is a picture of the one that came off mine

Here its one of the new to me one

Here is them side by side

    Thanks everyone

It looks like the forks won't stick out front as much with the new to me lower. How will this affect handling?

That is a lower TT off of a special and won't have the correct rake for a standard.

.... and with the standard top tree you probably won't even be able to assemble it. Wrong part....

I have the to for the one you guys said was a special one. I'm debating wether to put the special TT on or my slightly bent original inner that I have been doing fine with for almost a year.

Mixing forks/trees will change the handling, and not for the better. Using Special trees with standard forks will increase trail and make the bike slower responding and heavier steering. If you're using the stock 'standard' headlight/ears/turns/etc, none of that will fit quite right or at all.

Steve's right. Unless your Fredintoon and have a sidecar you'll want the right stuff.

If you put special TTs on you'll need to put special forks too or you'll have a handling problem.

You wont even be able to insert the forks with a special lower and standard upper. The holes wont line up!

Alright thanks guys. I guess I will put it back together with the slightly bent standard TT and see if I can find a standard one to put on in the future. I guess to days not a complete falure I will be good at the disassembly and reassembly of the front end plus I learned the difference between the two.
