Note I said up for sale, I didn't say he was selling it for £10K, coz that would imply someone would give him £10K for it!! LOL

The bike on Craigslist is very nice. It would sell for $6,000 here in the UK, without a doubt.XS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. Iridium plugs. XS750 final drive (sometimes). I wouldn't go so far as to say somebody who paid 6k for the E would be an idiot, but they definitely would be over spending.
I probably paid a bit high for my SG, $1700, but it was the only one for sale at the time on CL and it is a solid rider and in great shape for a bike well-used at its age. I probably should have paid 13-1400 for it. Right now, with the competition currently, that would have been a reasonable price.
I've heard many people say they feel the XS is undervalued. While that may be true compared to other brands, I think 1-2k for a 30 year old bike is plenty. Immaculate examples like the E above excepting, of course.
If I had 6k to drop on a bike the XS wouldn't even be on my radar, for a guy who can at present only own one motorcycle. Don't get me wrong, I love my XS and have no plans of parting with it, but really? For 6k I could get a pretty decked out GS, or a Concours 14, or even a 'Busa.
No accounting for taste but 6k is real high. I hate to be a douche but I'd lowball the guy at 3500 and let that bike sit on CL until he caved. I paid 3500 for an immaculate VF1000F at a dealer! And the 1000F was only sold for one year in the US!1990 Ninja ZX-10. It's the Silver Surfer. HI-YA!!

All in how you look at it.
It's all in how you look at it.
For those of us willing and able to fix up the cheaper ones we find, it;s crazy to think about buying one for 6k.
But for someone who has no time or the skills to work on one, who just appreciates it and wants to add it to a collection, paying 6k isn't that far fetched.
I do computer work for a living, and have built my own computers for years, so when someone tells me they bought a "Off the shelf" pc for $1000 I usually shake my head because I know I can build it for hundreds cheaper with better parts.
Add to that, how many crate fresh 1 owner never seen rain or wet roads 1978 motorcycles do you think actually exist? I bet not many.
DamianIf it's worth doing, It's worth overdoing!
Ride it like you stole it, or get out of my way.
Don't worry if others don't like it, if you like it just smile and ride!
1979 XS1100SF w/ Flanders "Superbike" Handlebars,
Upcoming mods include but not limited to, ZRX Carbs, 4-1 exhaust, and a gun fighter single seat, lots of paint, chrome and powder coating.

$6000 is £3,859 at todays exchange, not too much money at all for such a lovely bike, and as James says, it would definitely sell for that in UK.
I agree with you Jimby, I wouldn't spend that on an XS11, great bikes though they are
