Well the headlight not putting out light is a good clue that it doesn't work.....then you just flip to highbeam.

It just eliminates possible failure points. Nothing all that significant.

That said, in daytime you can't see that the headlight has gone out, and the fixit ticket for not having a headlight on is a rude way to find out it went out. Then again, I've bypassed my RLU back when I tried that POS LED headlight bulb. Didn't put it back either, as my headlight seems a little bit brighter without it, so that's another reason for bypassing it. I too don't see the warning light as being much of a reason, and if the one goes out, I can manually switch to the other till I can pull over and put my spare bulb in (the one that I don't carry at the moment )

Also, with all of the SUV's out there while riding in traffic, I can easily check whether my headlight is working just by looking for it's reflection in the body panels of the car in front of me!

If you by pass the headlight relay, you might want to put in an On/OFF switch, because it does draw power from the electric start process, and it doesn't take much to weaken the battery to drop the starting voltage to the TCI to near/below the 10.5V NO WORK threshold....then the bike won't start even though the engine will crank!
