  • Diaphragm Assembly

Possible stupid question. I finished rebuilding my carbs and am getting ready to put them back in. The bike wasn’t running when I got it so I’m not sure if it had a diaphragm assembly or not. I didn’t remove one and I can’t seem to find it on the bike. Is there a way for the carbs to operate correctly without one?

    Thanks,
    Jason

Are you talking about the octy? Only the specials had that, don't know what you have though.

It is completely unnecessary though. Lots just ditch the thing anyways.

Which model bike do you have? The standards didn't have the octy, the Specials did...

Yes, the Special will work without one. Post your bike year/model in your signature, it helps.

Well since you have a standard the petcocks are already vacuum operated so they take the place of the octy, and they are much cleaner looking too!

Thanks again Nate, and Steve I modified my sig line to show model. Now to sync the carbs, bleed the brakes, change the fluids and ready to go. Oh ya and clean the gas tank.

              Jason,

Instead of one vacuum valve (octy), you get two! With regular use, they are very little trouble.
