  • Bleeding brakes 1982 1100 Maxum

Having trouble getting the brakes to bleed. Can someone tell me the procedure? Cant get the warning light to go off either. There is only the two resvoirs to fill right. Front and rear. Thanks

The XJ system is a PITA to bleed due to the long line from the rear master to the left front caliper. Your best bet will be to get a MitiVac and suck the fluid through. Start at the left front, then go to the rear, and you may have to repeat this several times. The right front will be much easier...

Make sure you don't run out of fluid in the master cylinder, if you do you'll have to start over.

I should have noted that the brake warning light is simply a level indicator; low fluid = the light comes on. If the reservoir(s) are full and you still have the light, make sure the 'floats' in the reservoirs are moving freely and aren't stuck.

They may have to order it, but can no doubt get one. Check online, you may find a better deal. Expect to pay about $50....
