  • Carb kits

I just received 4 carb kits from Georgefix. K+L kit K-620 or 18-2555. Not sure which is the right number. On the sticker it states XS1100E 1978.

Anyway, I see the holes in the jets are not quite the same size. They are also not the same numbers. Old pilot jet says 180, new one is 210. Old main jet is 140, new one is 137.5. Old pilot jet is 42.5, new one is 45.

I know these have been taken apart before as the butterfly screws were not peened.

So the question is, do I replace all the jets with the new stuff or do I stick with the old? I don't have any major modifications on the bike. THe exhaust is not factory but its nothing special either.

Use the installed jets, which I assume are genuine Mikuni. I also wouldn't use the kit needles. Just the float valves/seats, gaskets, and idle screw/spring.

Damn, that seems like a big waste of money if you buy the whole kit.

      Thanks

For a 78, 210 air jet, 45 pilots, 137.5 mains. Those are stock numbers if they are Micuni parts. If you have after market pipes, the previous owner likely attempted to compensate for those.

Those are the sizes that came with the kit.

So we have one that says use the old ones and one that says the new ones are the right size. Any more input?

These carbs are used from a different bike so I have no idea why these different jets were put in.

Are your carbs from an early or later XS? That is simply the most important question to ask. After we know that it becomes much simpler to help.

Skids was not saying to use the jets in the kit. He was just saying the the numbers on the jets were correct for a '78. He also that they are correct if they are genuine mikuni.

I'll note that you can find both 210 and 180 air jets in the '78 carbs. If you have 180s installed, I wouldn't change them.

As to the 'waste of money' thing, even without using all the kit parts his kits are usually still cheaper than buying just the 'needed' parts separately. The idle screws generally need replacing along with their springs, and just the idle screws can cost up to $8 each. Georgefix's kits is the one of the better values for these bikes IMHO...

From what I can tell from the ID post, they are from a 78/79.
