Fuel tank badges

Mikes XS has new fuel tank badges for 1978 to 1984 XS650's, part #65-6502. Does anyone know if those would also work on an '80 XS Special? They look the same but MikesXs didn't know if they would work.

Pretty sure the 650 badges are smaller than the 1100 ones.

This is a MikesXS tank badge on the Pumpkin's tank:-



The badges look almost the same but are ~ 1/4" shorter between their bolt holes.
They can be made to fit by drilling & tapping another M3 hole in the back leg of the tank's badge hold-down tab.
There is just enough space behind the tab that a careful person will not make a hole in the tank with his tapping drill.
Once on a really picky fellow can just about notice the start of the tank's badge pocket.
If you are going to repaint the tank, you could Bondo the pocket flush in that area.
Otherwise, don't bother.

Thanks for that idea Joe, The PO of my G filled in the area where the tank badges used to be and I've been wanting something to show off the Yamaha name. Those might be just the ticket.

Good Buy for Stock Emblems

Found these on eBay that are a perfect match for my Venturer
they do not have the screw holes as my Venturer doesn't either...
The pair shipped to me was $22.99...the only down-side is they come from Thailand
and it takes about 4 weeks to get them

I guess you bought a pair as there's only 3 pair left now.
Have you seen these tank panels and pinstripes for the tank if you do paint it?

Yes I did. Now have to patiently wait for them to get here.
No rush really as I plan to do the tank over the winter. Nice decal set. Bit high $$ for me though and the tank does not currently have the decals on so I am used to it.

depends on what part of the week you buy them...and your location in the US
But I would think 4 weeks would be the absolute longest it could be...

HECK...I liked them so much, I just ordered a 2nd pair for my 79 SF that
has the tank cumstom painted with the screw holes filled-in, so I can use these
if I decide to put emblems on it later...SO that means there's ONLY 1 pair leftat this great price of $22.99 delivered to your mailbox...get 'em if you can
