  • K&L carb kits

Hello, I have a XS1100LG and got a carb kit from Georgefix, my question is what is the difference in kits 18-2606 for 80-81 xs1100LG/LH XS1100SH Special and Kit 18-2559 for 80 XS1100SG Special? the kits have the same main and pilot jets but other than that what about the needles or?
I have the kit 18-2559 and will use them, just want to see if any performance difference.
My carbs still have all the original parts except float needles and gaskets.
Thank you for your time and response.

    Ron,

Depending who you ask, the 80 and 81 did have different main jets in the carbs. Also the needle jets and emulsion tubes were different between those two years.

The pilot jets, air jets, float needles and seats were all the same, as well as the actual floats, and the slides and diaphrams.

I am not sure if the LG was different from the SG, or the LH from the SH though.

K&L actual hole sizes are done using a different method of measurement. With saying that the K&L main jets WILL be larger metering hole size, even tho they may have the same 110 size designation. Pilot jets will likely be the same case, and they may not have the correct number of holes on sides(6hole being correct) If it were mine, I would use your original main jets and pilot jets, as well as the original emulsion tubes. BTW, 110mains IS the stock size for the 80-81 Special models. Using the K&L bowl gaskets and float needles will work just fine. Putting the K&L jets and related brass pieces in WILL leave you with tuning/running issues, even if they might be minor. I have heard of a cross reference chart for this problem, but myself, have never seen one as of yet. You, and your carbs will play happy using GenuineMikuni jetting, which is likely to be what is in it already if jetting has never been changed and bike still has stock air filter housing and exhaust. If you choose to use the K&L jets.........best of luck....

Motoman speaks the truth. I took his advice and ordered up some Mikuni jets from Jets-R-Us. Just by looking at them, I could tell the K&L jets were different than the real deal. Side by side, differences are obvious, and it's more than the size of the hole.
