  • Mystery Fork Seals...

While doing my 'fork rebuild' tech tip, I ran into these that were fitted to my extra set of SG forks....

These are the outer dust seals, and they don't 'wrap' down the fork slider. They fit perfectly and are driven in like the internal seals. I looked, but I can't find any name/numbers on them anywhere. Anybody seen these?

Would have been the perfect solution for DGXSER's 'lipless' fork brace...

A lot of bikes use that type of dust wiper, I've never seen them on XS forks though. My FJ forks have those.

Those look to be the same things that are on my 650 Maxim.

If there are more than three bolts holding it on there, it is most likely a very important part!

That would be rare, since they were only made in 82.........

Maybe he missed the 650 part of the XJ ;-)
If I remember when I replaced my seals last year, that is just the dust seal and there is a traditional looking seal under it. I replaced them with oem and they're leaking bad again. I hope to do all of mine again soon with dust covers if I can find everything. Now that someone posted about the rear XJ shock gaiters, I can't wait to do those too.

No, my bad, Nate is correct. Was thinking of the XJ11, but that 'big block' went to our friends up north thru 84 anyways.....(BTW Nate, that should earn you ten points.)
