If you've got a part number, try Boats.net If it's still available, they'll have it or get it quick and shipping is low. Then again, the dealer might have one too.

It is so nice to read a thread that ends with good news like this one.
    Perfect!

    1. XSive has problem and posts up his symptoms,
    2. Others chime in with ideas of things to check,
    3. Those things get checked and more info is posted,
    4. Problem found and fix is made.

Sounds like a movie script or a good novel plot.

This is exactly why I come to this site at least 3-4 times a week if not more.
I learn something new everyday. Even if I don't learn it, at least it's in the back of my head, so if I have the same/similar problem, then I might remember that I've heard about that before and come looking.

      Hey Gene,

That's awesome info, glad you were able to find the shaft with the missing C clip. Go to your local Harbor Freight and get a kit of C-clips for a few bucks!

The gear will/should only spin one way freely, the other way and it's causing the starter clutch to GRAB the starter shaft, and that's why it doesn't turn with just your hand strength, but once you have the shaft secured with the C-clip, you'll be able to engage the starter motor and it should have no problems turning the gear and the starter clutch, and eventually the motor!

George, yep, I learn new stuff almost every day as well! I've been trying to help a fellow with an intermittent charging problem via email with the Contact US admin account. He's written/PM'd Steve but he's not heard back from him!

Anyways, he took his field coil and stator coil out of the ALT cover , and I was concerned about his ability to put the field coil back in place and properly centered so that it wouldn't rub the rotor! He informed me that the ALT cover has small locating pins/dowels for the field coil and so shouldn't be a problem getting it together and centered! I had never had my field coil out/off of my ALT cover, so I didn't KNOW about the locating pins!?

I had read other's warning about not removing the 3 bolts that hold the field coil to the ALT cover, I had actually removed 1 from mine a long time ago, but stopped when I realized I didn't need to take them out, but I stripped it tightening it back in/on...just put some locktite on it, had been there for 9 years! Of course now it's off since I have my mini-alt mod on there!
