I checked the two wires with the ohm meter and it looks like they are both good. I am buying a new kill switch tomorrow if i can find one but the ohm meter has indicated that it won't fix the problem. that is if i was using it right. .03ish is good yes? if this does not fix the problem is there something else I can start testing?

My F is the same way...I had to clean some corrosion from the edge of the housing that touches the handle bar to make it work again...so, that's probably the issue that you're havingNick

after opening up all the wiring it looks to me like the issue is the ignition control unit. Im going to replace that tomorrow and see what happens. the handle bars have no rust or other corrosion so Im pretty sure thats not the issue80 XS1100g

Hey Acan,
Did you try taking a simple spare wire jumper, attach one end to the blue/white wire at the starter solenoid, and then touch the other to GROUND? Like Steve said, if that works, then the actual switch is messed up. Take same jumper wire, connect to the wire at the starter button and contact to ground, again IF starter engages, then there's corrosion that's preventing the wire from completing it's circuit to GROUND thru the handlebars some how...corrosion on the button metal contact, the spring, the housing the spring is in, the place where the housing clamps onto the bars. Test the EASY stuff first, the TCI would not prevent it from engaging the starter motor.
There's a tip over switch under the gastank, they have been known to go flaky, just unplugging it fromn the harness will bypass it as well.

That has nothing to do with the starter operation. You can take the TCI completely off and the starter will still spin.Greg

Remember many years ago on here that it was found the 78 was the ONLY year that switch assembly did NOT need grounded. With saying that, My Venturer right switches control has to be grounded. Found that out when i mounted the powder-coated fully adjustable Heli-Bars a couple years back. Wrapped a piece of emory paper around a couple wraps and polished the powdrecoat off as it also interferred with the throttle tubes smooth operation.Last edited by motoman; 06-29-2012, 08:48 PM.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.
