  • Torque

It may have been stated here and I missed it but many times I see post of new members needing information on torque values for various bolts etc.

There are different types of torque wrenches and there are issues which can cause severe problems if used or maintained improperly. There are fixed beam and barrel and some different varriations. This link will give you some helpfull information that can prevent you from overtorque of bolts.

The one important thing I wanted to bring up is never leave the barrel type wrench loaded( loaded is set at a value other than 0). Leaving the wrench set with a value over a period of time has been known to knock the callibration off in these wrenchs.

You also have to be careful when ever you add any adaptor inbetween the wrench and the bolt you torque.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

That needs a bit of clarifying...

DON'T turn the wrench to 'zero'; what Ron means is set it to the lowest value it can measure i.e. if the wrench's range is 10 to 80 ft-lbs, set it at 10, 50 to 250 range, use 50, etc. Most of the 'click' design torque wrenches will be ruined if you 'unload' them too far.

Thanks Steve haven't had one that does not go to 0 for so long had forgotten. Just trying to help many really do not know they need them unloaded.
