STD vs SPECIAL Rear muffler hanger

Is the rear hanger distance the same on both?

Have the OE exhaust off my XJ for repairs and decided to test fitment of a 4-1 header I had bought some time ago.Head studs to short, so I guess it was for a std. Ports did match well tho. But the rear hanger on this muffler was about 4-6 inches rearward from the bike ear.

Is that right on a STD or wrong muffler?

They're pretty close to the same; the standard is slightly to the rear compared to a Special, but a good 1"+ lower. You must be missing the 'adaptor' bracket...

Here is a pic of a STD exhaust on a Special, should be close to the XJ...maybe?



You can see the adaptor I made out of 1/8" plate steel.

Thanks to you both. The picture is worth a 1000 words.Shows the possibilities . The hanger on my pipe is about where the front edge of the rim is and just as low. Will go from there.

As said this was a test fit for future reference .The OE should be ready soon.
