The NAPA and wix ones are still good and the only ones I would buy. And yes they will fit your '79. Good thing about the NAPA and wix filters is that they cine with both o rings, some of the other brands do not.

The Fram's come with both orings too... thats all I've ever used. I dont see any benefit from one to the other...at least I havent heard/seen any proof.

Your Fram number is good. I concur that the o'rings are in the box. I got one free with purchase of Valvolvoline motorcycle oil a few weeks ago at Advance Auto Parts.

          Carquest is a Wix as well. I think it's a 64933.

Last oil change I had to use a Wix because O'Reillys was out of Fram. Wix is a couple bux more.

Your '78 XS1100E uses the same filter as every other XS1100 and a bunch of other bikes. Visit the auto parts stores. If they don't have it, they'll get it, sometimes the same day.

All of the XS,XJ1100s use the same filter. Check O'Rielly for sure. Fram CH6002 is only about $4 there Wix 24933 is only about $6

Yup, I usually have to order the filter through the autoparts store as they dont stock them. It isually takes two weeks or less for them to get the Fram's but its worth it at ~$5.00 a filter after tax, I usually get 2 at a time...

I have trouble using any product from a manufacturer that thinks cardboard is an acceptable gasket material inside of an automobile filter, IE Fram.

                        Stick with Wix.

I am not a fan of Fram filters. I just picked one up at my local parts store because it was free with oil purchase. I don't have a Wix filter for direct comparison, but this Fram filter looks like it's the same. I expected to see obviously fewer pleats, but I don't. When I pick up some Wix filters, I'll post side by side photos. I just used my last CARQUEST filter.

When I looked at Fram and a Napa filter side by side, the Napa seemed to have the same NUMBER of pleats, but they were deeper pleats, meaning more filter area for the number of pleats, also meaning more flow at colder temps meaning less chance of going into bypass when cold. I'll stick with the higher quality brands than fram, as I've not been impressed with the quality of their filters.

If your talking about the automotive filter cut-a-always at napa then I agree. As far as Im concerned, no one makes a better auto filter than napa, solely judging visually from the display. BUT, as far as I can tell, I do not seen and more or less pleats in the various filters for out bikes. If you want to test them I suggest you disect a filter from each brand and measure the total length of filter media and calculate the surface area of the filter material. That is the only way to determine which has more and provides beter filter capability. Untill someone proves to me that fram is skimping on material in the ch6002 vs Wix I will continue to use them without hesitation otherwise I will just consider your preference based upon opinion only.
