  • Loss of power after a few minutes of riding

I crashed a few weeks ago, the back tire slid out to the left the bike caught the ground and flipped and landed on the front left turn signal. It had just rained for five minutes then got sunny again.

I managed to get it started and tried to ride it home. after a few minutes it would stall if i pulled in the clutch. and it was acting fuel starved or as if it had no spark.

a few days later it started right up drove it fine for a few minutes then the engine wants to cut out.

and now i cant start it without the kick start.

    Any suggestions?

Nothing in your signature as to what your riding and what has been done to it other than a high side flip?

1979 standard. it landed and crushed the speedo and the left turn signal. then slid to a stop. i replaced the speedo and removed the turn signals for now.

What happens when you use the electric starter?

when i use the electric starter it sounds like the starter isnt getting enough juice from the battery.

The starter problem sounds like you FUBARed some electrical if the starter won't turn it over, the loss of power after running for a while sounds like a clogged gas cap vent. Try popping the gas cap open when it loses power and see if that cures that problem.

EDIT; Just read your last post. You may have killed the battery by wrecking. The plates may be shorted out. Could have something to do with the loss of power also.

I would free on the battery, especially if it is a wet cell battery. They can't take a shock like that very well. Could have knocked a plate or two loose. Get it tested and see.

I turned off auto correct on my phone. Misspelled is easier to understand than the wrong word.

It sounds like they have got you covered....I just wanted to say that my 79sf used to run fine until it heated up, then would spit and sputter......the pickup coil wires were broken but they wouldn't cause a problem until it all go warm and loose.

I may have a standard speedo in the garage with a broken trip meter knob if you want it.

You may want to check the wiring harness where they come from the fork tree to the frame some times a quick jerk can damage wires if they were tied down tight. Since you said pulling in on the clutch causes it to die the wire problem may be near the cable. You do have the kill switch those wires would be a good place to start. Could be the battery check fluid check for good charge remeber a short will drag a battery down faster than it can charge in the bike.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

Also check for fuel delivery problems. You may have loosened some corrosion and gunk in the tank that have plugged the filter towers or your inline filters. My bet is on the battery shorting out a cell or two...

I got a good third party keyboard that actually has good auto correct prediction and don't have that problem. And the more I use it, the more it comes to understand MY typing style and adjust to what I'm likely to say as I type. Of course right now I'm no my computer as my therapist wants me working on my computer rather than phone or tablet as part of my therapy.
