It's nowhere near complete, and I'm sure there were multiple corrections / changes over the models and years. You SHOULD have your own FSM anyway. I just put it up to illustrate one of the major errors in the Yamaha FSM, Second printing, Jan '78.

Someplace, I saved a chart like that from a machinist's manual. I believe it is far more comprehensive. Given a little time, perhaps I'll find it. It's not on this laptop.

That would be the most reliable... if you get it scanned throw it up! Thanks.

It's not a case of "common sense"... it's about knowledge and experience. You have mechanical experience, as do I, and therefore can use your judgement but torque settings for a spark plug don't fall into the "common sense" category... certainly not for an aspiring newbie. Most people learn the hard way re stripping threads, skinning knuckles, dropping bits and losing them etc.

The point is, two people on this very forum have done that thing with the swingarm, as a direct result of inaccuracies in the Clymer manual. Do they therefore lack "common sense"? I don't think so. They "stuck with what the manual says" and unfortunately the manual was wrong. And that's a manual which doesn't use the decimal system at all. It's good 'ole foot pounds and it's incorrect.

All I'm saying is, don't treat a manual as if it's the gospel truth. Don't "stick with what the manual says" in fact.
That's why I use BOTH the Clymer AND FSM and compare the torque spec for a given fitting or bolt etc in the two. If they are not the same, then I research further to find out which is correct. In addition, since the FSM has the table of general torque specs, I can look and see if any spec for a nut or bolt falls into the table and if not consider it suspect. Generally if it's lower, it's probably fine, if higher I worry. Yes, I do have experience, with 3 years of auto shop in high school many years ago, and we didn't have click wrenches back then.
