    carb tune

I didn't read every post on here but I agree with what I did read. So I may be repeating someone else. Spend the $100.00 or $150.00 for vacuum gauges and a color tune kit and learn to do it yourself. You'll be glad you did. That's what I did. It's not that hard and for me it's quality time spent in the garage. Yeah the shops around here didn't want to work on my 81 either. So I had to learn. In reality they did me great favor and cost them selves a lot money in service work on all future bikes I'll have. The one thing that threw me for a bit was going by the clymer info for the fuel mixture screw. I got on here and asked about it and someone told me that that clymer info is really just a starting point. Each carb and bike will be a little different. This is where the colortune is useful.
Go slow, don't force it finesse it, ask questions of the folks on here, and find the fun in it. Good Luck.

      Vacuum gauges

      I bought a set of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-or-Mot...item4166c1e58c

They work excellently and aren't particularly expensive. They're a one-off purchase which will do my bikes repeatedly for years (I hope). Also, they cost less than a bike shop would charge to balance the carbs...if they even know how on a 30 year old bike
XS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. Iridium plugs. XS750 final drive (sometimes). Micron fork brace. Progressive front springs. Geezer regulator/rectifier. Stainless 4 into 2 exhaust. Auto CCT (Venturer 1300) SOLD. New project now on the go. 1980 European model.

        gauges

Yup, James that's the exact same set I have. I paid about $65.00 a few years ago I think. There is a store about 1/2 mile from my house. It's called Shadetree. You can order from them on line also. They don't have like motor or frame parts but they do sell a lot of accessories, tires, helmets and clothes, bags, oil filters and such. Ya'll should pull them up on line, might see something ya like. No I don't own stock in the store just throwing out another place to look for stuff. I got my windshield, bags, carb sync gauges there.
