  • I need a stator (won't charge)

    Hey everybody
I am here on the forum fairly frequently but I believe I have only posted once before, so I figured I should become more active. I have a problem. I had removed my stator cover when doing some engine polishing and when I replaced it the bike wouldn't charge. I didn't unhook the electrical connections or plug-ins so I know they are plugged in correctly (i also cleaned the plug connections up). I believe that when I had the stator of the I broke one of the windings inside. My question is does anyone have an extra one that they could get rid of. my bike is a 79 XS11F. Thanks in advance for all of your help.

    Hey there Coletrain777,

Do a search using "Not Charging" and review the threads about charging and not charging, Skids replied with several good tips on checking the system, the stator, etc. Many times it is the corrosion in the connectors to the stator, the reg/rectifier and such, even simple engine grounding straps that can prevent the charging system from working. There are no moving parts in the Stator coils themselves, so it's very doubtful that you damaged it unless you were excessively rough with it!! Do the tests the threads describe, along with really cleaning all the connectors and then report back your findings, and folks here can then help you to further trouble shoot it!!
