    Hey guys...

Just getting back in time for the Northeast thaw... It will be riding time soon...

I am going to clear out some parts in my shed soon, and I have a pair of XS11 carbs, and a CDI that I am trying to identify the year on... how do I do this?

Are there numbers? Where? How do they correspond?
    Thanks!

    Sam

Hey sam, this is John, formerly of Fairfield, Me. One method of id'ing the carbs is to look at the pilot screws. If they are visible, and have large, ribbed heads, they are from a 78-79. If the pilot screws are hidden under tamper proof plugs, then they are probably from an 80-81. If the do have the plugs, and a cable actuated choke, then they are from an XJ11. The main jets is another way to tell, providing they haven't been changed. The sizes for the 78-79 are 137.5 and the 80-81 will be 120 on #'s 2 & 3 cylinders, and 115 on #'s 1 & 4. On the cdi box, I believe the part number will begin with 2H7 for the 78-80's and the 81's and XJ's use a diifernt box, but I don't know the part number prefix for it. Riding season is just around the corner now. Too bad it's so short though. There are some beautiful areas in Maine to ride. I'm really fond of the Sugarloaf area, and around Saddleback Mt. is nice too.
      Hope this helps.

        Thanks, John...

Yeah, I'm a fan of riding in Maine myself... I live in Appleton, and often ride around the hills there, lots of views, twists and turns... I get a little tired of the crowned roads, though.

            willy from hollis maine here

            if you go to http://63.164.134.66/
it is the yamaha site with a parts list
for all the bikes including the xs1100s
i checked the cdi unit for the part number
and for all the years 1978-81 they are the same part number
            for standards anyway .
it is sorted by year so check you part numbers with the different years
            should help
let us kow what parts you have that you are getting rid of

            good luck

I noticed that my carbs had the first 3 numbers of the VIN on the carb bodies themselves. So you could match them up that way if yours has those numbers too.

                THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP.

I'll keep an eye out for that Rally... maybe we Mainers can all get together on the way up.

                Okay,

                Here is what I have...

2 sets of carbs, from 78-79's... not sure of the EXACT YEAR/Model
One in better than good condition, one in good condition.

One Ignitor/CDI blackbox... Fits all bikes 78-80, but not 81.

Several different original emblem sets, in various conditions...

                One Middle gear assy, working.

                One Starter, Working

One set of Ignition coils from an SG, working

I am going to get some of this stuff onto eBay this Sunday, my handle there is sammydacook, so you can look me up that way.
