Fork rebuild done, brake lines installed and the calipers taken apart to be given a cleaning behind the seals (They were dragging a bit). Putting everything back together and things are going well. Now the wiring in the headlight. I got everything hooked up correctly (pretty sure anyway) but no right hand turn signals. The left hand ones work correctly but nothing on the right side. The center signal wire is in the connector with the double dark green wire going in and the center wire on the right goes into the brown double wire connector. If I swap them the right hand light works when I activate the left hand turn signal, so the light bulb isn't burned out. Got me scratching my head some. The 79F wiring is even more PO'd up, so I would like to have some idea of how it should be before I tear into that bike.

If the left side works but the right doesn't, the problem is in the turn switch or downstream from it. Check for power at the dark green wire coming from the switch; look at the plug under the tank where the control plugs into the main harness.
These wires are known for failed solder joints at the switch, you may need to re-solder it...Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

Switch
Ok, I am pretty sure it will be the switch. I left the handlebars hanging from the wires and the clutch cable when I had the forks apart. Live and learn I guess, which is code for I am stupid.1979XS1100SF

Switch
Yup, it was the switch. When I took it out all the wires came off. With the little triangle protustion on the to, looking at where the wires get soldered on, going from left to right, what is the order of the wires by color? I could take the switch of the 79F and check, but if the same thing happens I'll have to ask this question anyway.1979XS1100SF

Other Switch
Didn't get a response on the wiring so I went and took the 79F switch apart, and the solder joints are coming apart in that one also. For now I'm dead in the water.1979XS1100SF

Lol...there is another threas that is kinda similar. U can order a new one from mikesxs.com and repin the connector housing. Ir u can do what i did and but a modern control switch. Reasons for a modern one is u donr have to worry about breaking tjat damn headlight switch, dont have to worry about the solder breacking loose from the slider inside the control., and its cheaper. Here is the link if u are intrested http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36408_____________________________________________ 1979 XS 1100 Special "The judge" mods- K&N air pods, 4-1 mac, 147.5 pilots, 57.5 mains, LED turn signal, cafe bars, HEL translucent yellow stainless steel brake line, dyna coil (dc2-1), raptor 660 mc, r6 controls..(sold)

Switch housing
Thanks guys. I got ahold of 3Phase/Scott and he sent a picture. Can't wait to dive into the mess that is the headlight housing wiring on my F. I got a headlight/ front trim ring for a standard on Ebay and it came with the housing also. Paid $10 plus shipping. So now I have an extra housing and a lens assembly without the trim ring. As soon as I get this pain in the butt Special running I'm going to get started on the F.1979XS1100SF

Handlebar switch
I gave up on soldering the switch. I was about 2 hands short trying to get it done. Went the cowardly route and got one from Mikes XS on the way.1979XS1100SF

Funny thing about the handlebar switch harnesses is both left and right control harnesses have a 4 pin connecter to the main harness on my SF.
When I cleaned up mine, I didn't look at the color of the wires and got them crossed up.
One of the turn signals started the bike....talk about scratching my head.
