  • 80 standard G fairing & windshield question

    My bike came with a fairing I always thought was a Vetter Windjammer. It has the one piece Vetter mount(4 bolts). The windshield has 7 mounting screws, with 2 clips at the top on either side. The headlight & turn signals are square; the TS are recessed into the fairing. It has the lockable compartment on the right, a leather snap close pocket on the left. It says Yamaha on either side of the outer shell, where the Windjammer logo usually is. It has a nameplate on the inner left shell, and the light plug-in mounts thru it. It reads Yamaha across the top, and under the plug it reads;
    Serial # 11527
    Yamaha Parts Distributors
    A subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Corp. USA
    6558 Katella Ave., Cypress, CA.

    The WS got trashed last week in an accident, so I'm trying to find out what will fit. Calling all XS guru's & anyone who can fill in the blanks. Many thanks.

    Any windjammer wind shield should fit. Those factory fairings were made by windjammer (Vetter) so any should fit.

      Sounds like a vetter made specifically for yamaha (that's why it has yamaha badges) but a picture would make it a sure thing.

        Yeah Nate, Biker Phil said the same thing. I'm working on the pics. Strange thing; on a website for new WS's, there's no difference you can see between the Vetter 3, 4 or 5-just how the mounts are configured. Thanks for your input.

          They both have 7 mounting holes. The only difference is that one is 1/2" taller, slightly more curved and 1" wider at the top. That one is for the Vetter 4, if I remember correctly. The other is the Vetter 5.

                That's the Vetter that was made for Yamaha. Any Windjammer WS will fit, at least any of the WJ III - IV will, not 100% sure if the V WS was the same but I think it was as well, as I think it was just the lowers that were a little different, with all the WJ's using the same WS's.

                  80 standard G fairing & windshield question

                  Thanks Cy, and all those who kicked in. That seems to be the consensus. Mine appears to be a WJ IV, and one of our member's has just what I need. Nailing down this little tidbit has been more hassle than trying to resurrect the rest of the bike!
