    Ngk

    Manual states NGK BP6ES

Many have tried other stuff - but these work well and are correct heat range.

I always use iridium plugs. I would use them in your XS1100.

                  Captjanes,

What was the result of the Bosch tips that you saw break off? Must have scored all those cylinders in the respective engines pretty badly... Maybe ruined the engine?

I run the Iridium NGK in my 80 SG since just before the Colo Rally last summer, and it's a nice tan color insulator and the XS fires up quicker, almost instantaneously, than any other bike I own or have owned. Don't know if the plugs are the reason, but hey, they are good plugs and will last for as long as I ride the bike.

i was running platinum 4 in my jeep tj and in #2 cyl 2 out of 4 tips broke off the plug and in #3 cyl 4 tips was broke off.. when i pull the head off i seen that #1,#4 cyl plug was almost ready to break they turned a blue colour from the heat and was bent almost down straight i dunno how the engine ran. it only had about 10,000KMS on the plugs. #2,3 cyl was scared up that bad i couldnt clean her up with a honer i took block to machine shop and the liner cleaned up on .035" so i had to go with oversize pistons and rings.. i done all the work myself so i completly rebuilt engine cost me around 900$. i should of sent the bill to bosch lol.. my friend had a civic he was running that bosh platinum 2 and he also had 4 tips melt i had to over haul his engine but she cleaned up with a honer so it didnt cost much..again only 15,000KMS.. i am on a few offroad forums and shortly after i started reading threads on how weak and soft the bosh platinum are.. after that i been running ngk iridums in everthing and havent had a hitch so far (knock on wood)

I would suggest not wasting the money on the iridium plugs till you know it Is running good.

I use those iridium ones too. They seem to work just fine. Not really much more money for a bit of an upgrade.

How long ago was that issue with the Bosch plugs? I ran the platinums for 20years in my cars through the 80's and 90's with nary an issue.

Honestly, the plug change interval is so long with high energy ignition systems in todays cars that I don't change plugs very often. I track gas mileage each and every tank and can easily see if the performance is falling off in the long run in terms of lower gas mileage. That applies to my 2005 Ford Freestyle V6 SUV crossover, and the 2006 Toyota Sienna V6 Minivan.

My current '94 Jeep Grand Cherokee (and all my previous Jeep vehicles) does respond to a good old cap/rotor/plugs. It's about ready for a cap/rotor and plugs within the next 1000 miles (at the next oil change). They will have been in for 20,000 miles.

With my XS, I've said it before, but it fires up instantly and I believe the NGK iridium plugs (or any good quality iridium plug) do a better job at lighting things off in the morning and subsequently in riding the bike, for whatever it's worth.

I'm still running the stock style plugs (dual side electrode) in my ZRX 1200, and at my recent valve check/adjustment I noticed the plugs were showing some center electrode wear after 8000 miles in the bike, so I will be replacing those with iridium plugs shortly.

With the Bosch issue, very interesting the same thing happened to you and a fellow you know. Did you get the plugs around the same time in the same geographical area? Could have been a bad batch, so to speak, out of the millions upon millions of plugs they make.

that happened to me maybe 4 years ago not really sure now.. and my buddy maybe 6-7 years ago.. i got my plugs and canadiantire and he got his at another automotive store.. i came across a back batch of br8es plugs before for my sleds i bought a full box and not one worked then i started on another box and they was fine.. the guy at the shop sent the box back to ngk and got another box free of charge and i got my plugs for free.. but me and my buddy got plugs in 2 different places in 2 different cities so what are the chances of it being from the same batch? its possible but highly unlikely
