  • I need help too - can't figure out gas leak

Hi guys, my 11 has about 8k miles on it and has always run great. Recently, I had a problem where gas would pour out of the number 3 and 4 carbs. After close examination I found that one float had leaked an had gas in it. Got four new floats and problem solved??? NO. Still same problem so it must be the valves seats and/or valves the floats actuate. Four carb rebuild kits on the way! Replace all four valves and needles - carbs fixed??? NOOO! Same problem - gas pours out of three and four. If I take the bowls off, run gas through the carbs and lift the floats by hand - gas shuts off on each carb. Put the bowls on and reinstall and again gas pours out after filling the bowls I checked the best I could to see if the floats are binding on the bowls and they seem to be very free to move even with the bowls almost all the way on. I've checked the float heights MANY times and have them at 25.7 mm as the manual says. Any suggestions??

Make sure the carb vents are open; a blocked vent will cause this...

Steve, I have the vent going to a gas filter which goes to the atmosphere since I'm running pods. Do you think a gas filter could cause enough of a restriction? Maybe one wet with gas??

Yep, I think that could do it; fuel filters aren't the best choice for vent filters IMO. I've run into that problem on other bikes for sure....

Well I blew into the vent and after that no leak, so I guess you were right - again
