I just replaced the beater tires on my XJ11 with Michelin Commander II's and the front pressure was at 32 and the rear at 40 when I picked them up. this is WNL but I was surprised at the pressure difference between them.

What is considered ideal to have the pressures at?

    Thanks!

I run both of mine @ 40.. but I'm full dressed. if you run no fairing you could be a little lower in the front. 32 to 36 is about norm for front.

      Oh no you didnt!

The correct tire pressure is a function of the viscosity of your engine oil, divided by the square root of your barometric pressure on a full moon in the month of June.

Tire pressure is another one of those what oil is best questions.

Tire pressure really is based on what tire you use, how your bike is set up, accessories, how you ride, your size, etc etc etc...

Play around with it and see what works best for you.

Full moon tomorrow. Don't forget to check the barometric pressure. It must be recorded at exactly 12:01 A.M.

Is that on a Blue moon or a white moon? It's a cheesy question, dicey for sure, I just want to be sure the bike will handle those Cheddar marks along the side of the asphalt..

O'course if Mr. Creosote is on the bike that would have an effect on tire pressure, I'm not using a faring yet & I weigh about 200 lbs. I'm looking for low rolling resistance and longevity, I don't want to over-inflate and wear out the center tread unnecessarily fast. These are nice tires for sure & handle great, definitely a good choice. right now I have them at 38 F & 40 R & don't want to go unnecessarily high or low.

Since all our bikes weigh pretty much the same It'd be interesting to know what others with Commander II are running.

Don't have a Commander II, whatever that is, but my setup on ol' okie is pretty much the same as your XJ.

I'm running about 25psi in the front forks, 32 - 35psi in the front tire. (yes I have a fairing). 40psi in the XJ rear shocks and 40psi in the rear tire. With that setup the bike will do things that you don't expect it to be able to do.

I've taken it WAYYYYY to hard into some turns and just let the bike take care of it and it does.

They'e a fairly new Michelin tire:

                Rear: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...Rear-Tire.aspx

                Michelin site: http://www.michelinmotorcycle.com/in...vent=Commander

I did a fair amount of research before buying and these are reportedly getting 15K miles on cruisers with some reports as high as 22K miles.

They do grip beautifully and the tar snakes that used to make me slide over, don't do that any more. Same for that #$%^& center of the lane asphalt overlap, these don't get bothered by them.

Right now I am running a set of Shinko 712s. They are a VERY grippy tire and perform great but the mileage is no where near that. 5 - 6 K is pretty much the norm on the rear.

The Dunlop Elite III is the tire that has impressed me the most so far. The $140 price for the rear tire is a little high for us poor people but the Shinko is pretty close in peformance. I'll be getting another E3 for the rear soon though. Got 14K out of the last one. I'm happy with the Shinko on the front though because it's life up there is pretty close to the E3 on the rear and it grips good.
