1986 Yamaha FJ1200 - The previous tourer, replaced by the XS11. Someone had to go.
1974 Chrysler Valiant Charger - Because you can't only have 2 wheeled toys draining the cash.

And as for the front fork springs, what is the general consensus on using progressive springs? I planned to have a chat with someone from a suspension shop, but I'm interested what others have used to update their suspension. My FJ1200 was having a similar issue to this, and I ended up installing a pair of Racetech cartridge emulators and a pair of progressive rate springs. Only downside with the emulators is that you have to modify the dampers by drilling them out.

Personally, I am no fan of progressive springs. They will get you through the corners, but if you have the sag set properly, they will rattle your teeth on a rough surface. My forks are fitted with RaceTech emulators and custom wound straight rate springs. On the back I have Progressive 412 with 140/200 springs. I had to go that high to correct the sag on the loaded bike. Now, if I run over a dime, I can tell if it's heads or tails. To do it over, I would put straight rate springs on the back as well.Marty (in Mississippi)

Amazing how big a difference it can make between straight and progressive springs. Guess I'm doing a bit of suspension work along with making those brackets! Time to get on the blower to Ikon too, I spose, see what they can do for me. Touring gear will just have to wait for now. At least its still perfectly rideable without the gear on the back. Gawd, its amazing how we can overlook simple things that can cause disaster. Figured out one problem with the handling of the bike. On the last run up the road, I noticed a bit of a knock in the front during braking. Hmm.
Removed the upper triple clamp, and looked at the head stem. Immediately thought to myself: "Why are the two nuts finger-tight and not done up...?"
*shakes head slowly*
Needless to say, a self-uppercut was swiftly applied.
The bearings don't seem to have any notching in them from being loose, luckily. It hasn't been ridden much since I replaced the bearings a couple of years ago. I haven't tried riding it with the luggage again, I won't do that until I can mount them properly. Still going to replace the rear shocks and front fork springs though, needs doing. Took it for a blat without bags fitted though, and it handles a hell of a lot better.
