    K&N Filter Maintenance

    Hi guys,

    I was wondering if any of you guys with K&N air filter cartridges use a "home brew" cleaning solution to clean your K&N..? I could go buy the stuff at the store but that would be too easy. Also, what do you use to re-oil the filter, and how often is it recommended?

    Been awhile since I had an actual K&N filter but I used to use plain old dishwashing soap (Dawn works best) and warm water in the sink. Then treat with most any light-weight filter oil spray available at the auto parts store.

    Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.

      What about the process to clean it..? Should I soak it at all...what about scrubbing it or anything like that?

        I wouldn't 'scrub'. I've washed mine with a gaden hose with one of those nozzle sprayers on it and Dawn soap. ('dawn takes the grease away')
        I sprayed from the inside out to force the 'dirt' out the same way it came into the filter.
        Soaking could work, I haven't tried it. I'd make sure you get it fully dry after though.

        I probably should have used warm water from the kitchen sink and the sink sprayer, but I think the SWMBO might have killed me.
