    Yes a bummer but......

Yes, the higher price is a bummer, which lead me to ask you about it before I order it. I kinda like the square head light, at least enought to not want to change it for now.

I hope you don't mind, I copied and saved your first picture to show my wife, so she would know the direction we are headed on my bike.

    Very nice bike, well done.

        Hey there Harrington,

Yes, very nice paint job and all. Curious if you can tell me the ID of the muffler clamp on section....Crazy Steve had said that most HD's used a 1.75" OD header pipe that the muffler clamps onto, but would like to know for my replacement header project.

The set I have made for George(Glowe) had to have some adapters because the MAC mufflers used a 2.25" ID muffler size to clamp onto a 2.25" OD header section! Thanks in advance!

So, maybe we need some different setups to chime in with what their ODs are.

The Harley pipes are either 1 3/4" or 1 7/8".
              The Mac 4 into 2 (mine) are 2 1/4"

              Any others? Stock mufflers? etc.?

The 1 7/8" measurement is the OD of the muffler; the header pipe (and ID of the muffler) on all Harleys (except maybe the V-Rod) is 1.75"....

Thanks Steve for the clarification. I was just trying to help TC out on his header project and get some more data points so he'll know what kind of collector adapters he may have to get for various mufflers others might have.

Sorry to sort of highjack this thread for that.

I have a spare set of XJ headers laying in the spare bedroom. The outlet (which is a female fitting) appears to be for 1.5"od (factory muffler bushing). I have a decent set of XJ headers and I'm debating what to put behind them. If I go with the HD mufflers they are going on the XJ as it has a fairing. I'm also looking at a Helix Megaphone which looks like XS mufflers which would go on the XS.

Speedymetals.com is perfect for short/small pieces cut to order so I looked at a pair of 3" long 1.5" od Stainless tubing to shove in the ends and that was going to be $7.00.

From there you could hang anything on behind. I have a spare Yamaha Muffler bushing and its 1 11/16 OD+ so it might work in a 1.75 inlet on a muffler once tightened down unless someone knows for sure.

Does anyone know the OD of the standard pipe after the collector?

                      Id?od

The xs11 stock exhaust is 1 & 3/4 in give or take a mm. Hd muffs are a bolt on to stock xs1100 headers.
                      2 more bits of wisdom:

Standard headers have about 3 inches of pipe on which to mount a muffler after the old rusty xs1100 muffler is cut off. Provided the cutter cuts in the right place. Gives you a lot of fudge room for mounting. Those headers can be used on any xs1100.
If you're cutting off special mufflers it's a different story. Almost nothing to work with at the cut off. Not impossible, just difficult.

The good news is that because so many modern cars have small exhaust pipes, you can by ID/OD pipe adaptors at any auto parts store to make your fitting work. Than just use chrome clamps to hide the adaptor.
